INTENSIVE SUPERVISION UNIT (ISP)
| ISP Felony
Caseload:
The Intensive Supervised Probation (ISP) Unit supervises adult felons placed on probation by the Common Pleas Court, who are being granted one last opportunity to be diverted from prison. The department presently has been awarded two grants by the State of Ohio to help reduce jail over-crowding and embrace rehabilitation efforts. The ISP unit is responsible for numerous functions including but not limited to enforcing compliance with court ordered community control conditions, monitoring probationers with greater scrutiny and intensity than in the regular supervision unit. Such functions include: acting as liaison between the court and probationer, Community Based Correctional Facilities (CBCF's), and drug treatment providers. Additionally, probation officers in this unit monitor and administer drug and alcohol testing, probation searches, seizing contraband and weapons, providing written and oral reports to the courts, and represent the department in court at probation violation hearings. The unit works closely with various law enforcement agencies to provide the best protection for the community and often is responsible to work special evening ride-along visits to probationers homes to insure compliance of court conditions. |

MENTALLY DISORDERED/RETARDED OFFENDERS ON PROBATION |
| In
response to research indicating that 16-18% of probationers have a
mental illness, the mentally disordered/retarded offender project was
created and is a program designed to help the severely
mentally disordered, or retarded, offender successfully complete
probation, receive counseling for their disorders and assist them in
making the necessary adjustments into the community setting.
Probation Officers assigned to the Mentally Disordered Unit work in conjunction with project staff of a Community Mental Health Center. Probation Staff provide supervision and enforcement of conditions of probation, treatment program staff provide counseling, medication and supportive services. Caseload size should be kept at state standard which is targeted to be no more than 35 mentally disordered offenders per officer. |
