DRUG ABUSE COMMISSION

(MCDAC)

MISSION STATEMENT

MCDAC's Mission Statement: "The Medina County Drug Abuse Commission serves to prevent the negative effects of drug abuse by providing funding for and monitoring of education, law enforcement and treatment programs."

Thanks to the continuing support of a 0.4 mill levy by Medina County residents, MCDAC has successfully worked to fulfill that mission for over 17 years.

The MCDAC Commission is composed of nine residents of Medina County and an alternate representative who are recommended to the Board of County Commissioners and appointed to a 3 year position.

These dedicated, volunteer, board members are committed to reduce the negative effect of substance abuse that affects our schools, neighborhoods, workplaces, communities, families, children, coworkers, and many others. The MCDAC Commission members serve in an advisory capacity to the Medina County Board of Commissioners and are charged with the responsibility of making educated and sound recommendations of grant requests that are reflective of our county's needs and the most effective distribution of county tax dollars.

The MCDAC Commission is reflective of our county with eighteen members that include a representative and alternate position from: Medina County Commissioners (2), City of Brunswick, City of Medina, City of Wadsworth, Medina County Villages, Medina County Township Trustees Association, Medina County Police Chiefs' Association, and the Medina County School Districts.

Current Programs funded by "anti-drug" levy monies; MCDAC awarded approximately $1.2 million dollars supporting "anti-drug" programs, special projects and community events such as Red Ribbon Week within Medina County that reflect MCDAC's Mission Statements in three areas: ATOD-alcohol, tobacco & drug education, treatment programs, and law enforcement.
